Hackintosh Tutorial: Install iPC OSx86 Public Beta 10.5.6 Universal

1. What You Need?

1.1. iPC_OSx86_Public_Beta.iso, PPF-1 ~ PPF-5. You can find them as usual.
1.2. DVD blank disc if you want to install through DVD.
1.3. Blank HDD partition or a whole fresh HDD more than 10GB
1.4. The app. to check your hardware info. Recommend EVEREST http://www.lavalys.com/ , CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php.

2. What need to Do before Install?

2.1. Use CPU-Z or EVEREST to check your CPU whether support SSE2, SSE3. e.g., IBM.ThinkPad.T60-1951BZ1.CPU-Intel.Core.Duo.T2400.Instruction.Set
2.2. Use EVEREST to check your machine's configuration info. You must check (my info of these hardware is in gray)

CPU Type (Mobile DualCore Intel Core Duo T2400, 1833 MHz (11 x 167))

Motherboard Chipset (Mobile Intel Calistoga-GM i945GM)

Video Adapter (Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family (224 MB))

3D Accelerator (Intel GMA 950)

Audio Adapter (Analog Devices AD1981HD @ Intel 82801GBM ICH7-M - High Definition Audio Controller [B-0])

IDE Controller (Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 27DF Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller)

Keyboard and Mouse interface (Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard)

Network Adapter (Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection)

USB Controller (Intel 82801GBM ICH7-M - USB Universal Host Controller [B-0] Intel 82801GBM ICH7-M - Enhanced USB2 Controller [B-0])

These infos determine whether you can succeed in installation later. If you can not finish this step correctly and completely, you can NOT go ahead. Otherwise, you will fail again and again!

2.3. Use the PPF-O-MATIC to patch the iso image with PPF-1, -2, -3, -4, -5. Please keep mind you must follow the sequence of patching from PPF-1 to PPF-5. And also you need to check the MD5 Hash of the image before and after patched.

MD5 hash of original ISO:
5eb1aaff70d1f5810cd62e9d075d812e

MD5 hash of PPF1 Patched ISO:
0c93dea47a999344a3b4303740f623f9

MD5 hash of PPF2 Patched ISO:
0fbdc0ed0bed502e026cca9cf42efa2c

MD5 hash of PPF3 Patched ISO:
fb4742db14dcba1892ead2f61b080e4e

MD5 hash of PPF4 Patched ISO:
a702367d23d9b3374df19ace88a9fb08

MD5 hash of PPF5 Patched ISO:

2.4. Burn the patched ISO to DVD disc

3. Install

3.1. Start machine with the DVD disc burnt in 2.5 step.
3.2. Type "-v" after boot in "F8" load
3.3. After the several check and code loading, now enter to install window, choose the Disk Utility from Utilities to format your blank partition or whole HDD as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"
3.4. Quit Disk Utility and choose the partition formatted to install. Before start installation, choose the "Customize" to check the install items based on your hardware support configuration. Here is mines:
iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System (must check)
Language Translations (do not check)

iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3

Kernels: do not check and install 9.6.0 Vanilla kernel by default

Drivers: Video Drivers (Intel GMA950),Chipset Drivers (Intel ICHx SATA Drivers, JMicronATA for JMicron IDE) ,Audio Drivers (AD1981), Ethernet Drivers (Intel Pro 100/VE), USB Drivers (Patched USB Drivers), Power Management (GenericCPUPowerManagement).

Fixes and Patches: SATA Driver Icon Fix (New), Shutdown/Restart, USB Mount Fix, PS/2 Keyboard Fix, AppleSMBIOS ToH
3.5. Now begin to install. About 1hours passed the installation completed. The system will automatically restart.
3.6. While the 1st restart after installation, pull out the DVD disc quickly and type "-f" followed boot in the "F8" load.
3.7. The following will be the normal setting and registry procedure.

3.9. Well done. Now enjoy your MAC world! Have FUN!

  2. Hey, thanks for this nice little guide. I have T60p with ATI, which is apparently the only major difference with your T60. Apart from Sleep and SpeedStep problems, I have a major problem with only single core working. I have to boot with "cpus=1" every time or machine won't start. Do you have the same problem, or do you have both cores active? Can you maybe suggest a possible approach to the solution of this problem?

  4. To Harry, Marco

Did you check your CPU type, does it support SSE2, SSE3? Did you check your machine's config and carefully check the options in customization menu before start installation?

It's better to install in Verbose Mode (F8-v) so you can see where stopped or has problem...

  10. Great guide. I ran Everest and have the same configuration as you have. I did not do step 2 since I had the FINAL version of the ISO.

At startup, the T60 has audio but the I am on a blue screen. I have tried other distro but no luck. I have two other T60's running on IAtkosV4. It did not work. I am at a loss.
